The International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) is set to launch a webinar series aimed at fostering dialogue and collaboration between the water management and agricultural sectors. The initiative, titled "It Takes Two to Tango", seeks to address the growing challenges of water scarcity, pollution, and climate change that threaten both water resources and food security in the Danube River Basin.

Water has an economic value in all its competing uses and therefore needs to be recognized as an economic good. In order to protect water as a valuable ressource, investments are needed to be implemented by Danube countries. The implementation of measures is beneficial for all sectors including water-related ecosystems.

For many countries in the Danube region, achieving universal access to water services while safeguarding water resources remains a significant challenge, particularly in rural areas.

VIENNA, 29 June 2023 – The International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River is delighted to announce the highly anticipated 2023 Danube Day festivities.

The European Commission proposes to cut the use of chemical pesticides in half by 2030, one of the flagship legislative proposals to follow the Biodiversity and Farm to Fork Strategies. The new rules on chemical pesticides will reduce the environmental footprint of the EU's food system, protect the health and well-being of citizens and agricultural workers, and help mitigate the pesticide use-related economic losses.

VIENNA, 29 June – A range of events and activities are taking place in the 14 Danube River Basin countries to mark the 2022 Danube Day. Due to the easing of many COVID-19 restrictions, the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) is delighted that they can celebrate the day with activities to #DiscoverDanube again this year.

The ICPDR has published a Guidance Document on Sustainable Agriculture, along with a Policy Paper.
