The International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) successfully launched its webinar series “It Takes Two to Tango” on 28 April 2026, bringing together about 100 participants from across the Danube River Basin and beyond. This initiative seeks to address the growing challenges of water scarcity, pollution, and climate change that threaten both water resources and food security in the Danube River Basin.

It Takes Two to Tango: ICPDR Webinar Series on Water & Agriculture Cooperation

The kick-off webinar focused on good practice examples of cooperation between the water management and agricultural sectors, addressing shared challenges such as water scarcity, pollution, and climate change. Experts, policymakers, and stakeholders exchanged insights on practical solutions and highlighted the importance of strengthened cross-sector collaboration for sustainable water and food systems.

High-level contributions from representatives of the European Commission, FAO, and national authorities provided valuable perspectives on both policy frameworks and on-the-ground implementation. National case studies from Germany, Austria, and Romania illustrated how cooperation can deliver tangible benefits for both sectors.

The interactive discussion further underscored strong interest in continued dialogue and demonstrated the relevance of the topic across the region.

Building on this positive momentum, the ICPDR is already preparing the next webinar in the series, which will further deepen the exchange and continue to support practical cooperation between water and agriculture stakeholders in the Danube Basin.

The webinar series forms part of a broader stepwise approach, including national roundtables and international workshops, aimed at fostering long-term collaboration and promoting sustainable solutions for both sectors.
