This week, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) hosts its 69th General Conference, with this year’s Scientific Forum themed Atoms for Water. The event, running from 16–17 September 2025, brings together global experts to explore how nuclear and isotopic techniques can address water scarcity, climate resilience, and sustainable management.

Bucharest, Romania – Nine countries along the Danube River have joined forces to protect some of Europe’s most endangered species: the sturgeons. On 9–10 July, thirteen project partners and strategic allies – including national ministries, universities, NGOs and research bodies – gathered in Bucharest to launch “MonStur in the Danube,” a new cross-border effort to monitor and protect these ancient migratory fish.

Brno, 14 November 2011. The recent publication of a Czech version of the PLATINA Manual is a major step in promoting good practices in inland navigation and waterway planning. Brussels, 15 November 2011. A groundbreaking conference in Brussels has seen two traditionally opposing waterways groups come together to discuss how to co-operate for the benefit of Europe’s rivers and canals.

Vienna, 14 June 2011. The ICPDR published a new brochure that gives an overview on the Danube River Basin last week. The publication is not limited to environmental issues alone, but includes facts and figures on a range of topics. It is distributed through the ICPDR and its contracting parties and provided for download below.

Belgrade, 29 June 2012. This year's Danube Day, the ICPDR gathered some 25 representatives from ministries, NGOs, schools and other educational institutions on a ship travelling from Belgrade to Vienna. Their mission: finding new ways to communicate water management issues to young people. The closing report is now ready for download.
