Barely a month after hosting the 24th ICPDR Standing Working Group Meeting in Uzhhorod, Ukraine, brought the Danube community together again. On July 24th, Ukraine hosted its 6th National Participation Day in Odesa as part of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). The event highlighted the alignment between the priorities of Ukraine’s ICPDR Presidency and the country’s path towards EU membership.

Vienna, 9 February 2016. The new online game DanubeAdventure.org provides children with an exciting opportunity to engage with the Danube. A clever mix between a quiz and skills games, Danube Adventure is a new chapter in the success story of ICPDR education activities. It is launched today in the frame of the 3rd ICPDR Ministerial Meeting.

Brussels, 18 November 2010. The European Commission published a communication on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) in the next decade. The paper outlines three options for further reform. The ICPDR contributed to it in the drafting phase.

Ajka, 15 November 2011. The redsludge accident of October 4 has generated a world-wide interest in the area of Ajka in Western Hungary. Since then, media attention has ceased. This article aims to provide an English summary of the measures that were taken to manage the accident since October 20.

Perth, 12 October 2010. The River Thamse was selected as the winner of the world’s largest environmental prize in 2010. It was presented to the Environment Agency at the Riversymposium in Perth. The Danube had won the prestigous prize in 2007.

Kolotar, 4 October 2010. The acute toxic risk deriving from the heavy metals in the red sludge is rather low, as their concentrations are rather low. However, the chronic toxicity threat is high.

Vienna, 24 September 2010. Two Serbian children have won the ‘International Danube Art Master 2010’ competition. The International Master is selected from the winners of the national ‘Danube Art Master’ competitions in 14 Danube Basin countries.

Vienna, 10 August 2010. PLATINA (the Platform for the implementation of Naiades) has launched an innovative manual presenting good practices in sustainable waterway planning.

Danube Basin, 1 September 2010. This summer, the Danube basin was repeatedly deluged by torrential rains causing massive floods. Across the basin people were forced from their homes, and many houses collapsed or were damaged due to floods or landslides after flood events. Zagreb, 10 March 2010. High-level officials of the ISRBC, ICPDR, DC, European Commission, state bodies and public institutions, dealing with navigation, environmental protection and sustainable development issues, from the Danube River Basin, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations have gathered yesterday and today to discuss the next steps towards a environmental friendly navigation.
