Discussions have begun on what the EC’s post-2020 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) will look like, specifically wishing to detail a framework for “future-proof” policy. With that in mind, ambitions regarding environmental and climate protection are due to be heightened responding to international commitments, EU environmental challenges, and above all, changing societal expectations. In response to the post-2020 CAP proposals, the ICPDR has published a Position Paper, outlining our positive response to the proposals, and suggesting a way forward for the Danube River Basin.

Stockholm, 21 August 2011. The “World Water Week” is taking place in Stockholm, Sweden, from August 21 to 27. The event, which is held annually since 1991, is organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).

The Prut River Basin comes into focus this year with greater attention from
Ukraine’s ICPDR Presidency and the three Prut countries working together to
create a sub-basin plan for the second-longest tributary of the Danube.

With the new sub-basin management plan for the Tisza, the Tisza Group and the
countries of the Tisza River Basin have achieved significant progress and an outstanding
example of cooperation.

A new activity to develop the technical
guidelines for the establishment of an
inventory on discharges, emissions and

the spotlight as a case study for priority
substances.

Partners throughout Danube countries are working together for the same
shared concern and outcome: a stakeholder-oriented flood risk assessment for
the Danube floodplains.

The European Union’s new Strategy for the
Danube brings together policies and structures
to provide new opportunities for sustainable
development in the region.
