On 23 September 2016, the opening ceremony of the hatchery station of the EU project LIFE Sterlet was held on the Danube Island in Vienna.
The ICPDR has been one of the first organisations to advocate the protection of this flagship species, raise awareness for the threat to see Danube sturgeons become totally extinct and support projects and initiatives such as LIFE Sterlet.

Vienna, 24 September 2010. Two Serbian children have won the ‘International Danube Art Master 2010’ competition. The International Master is selected from the winners of the national ‘Danube Art Master’ competitions in 14 Danube Basin countries.

ICPDR Danube Watch: 'Get active for the rivers!' was the call for Danube
Day 2010 and was a theme that people took ‘onboard’
and ran with! We danced, sang, canoed,
climbed, swam, cooked, explored and rapped
for the rivers. The river came to the street
and school went to the Danube. We
celebrated by being active and
by taking action.
